Here is a cool article from the NYTimes. Read it if you get the chance: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/16/opinion/16sat4.html?_r=1&em
I've started reading Harry Potter outloud in Spanish for pronunciation practice (I have to trick myself into studying -- it's working great!). It's actually WAY too much fun, I get really into it, doing the voices and all. No British accents, though.
Anyway, I agree that reading aloud is a bit of a lost art, but since it's not very commonplace, it seems REALLY awkward when you're doing it. I glance up from my bench at least every few minutes to make sure no one's listening to me. Usually just a couple of geese and the occasional squirrel. And a groundhog once. He gave me a funny look.

Don't worry, I read the first four Harry Potter books in Russian. Definitely helpful.
I LOVE your blog! I haven't had a minute in the last month so I just did a Shannon catch up (no seminary tomorrow so I'm living it up). Reading out loud is my favorite, especially Spanish, so ignore the stares and party on!
Aw, thanks guys! :)
